IUP won its fourth straight match, getting strong work in doubles and its fourth, fifth and sixth singles players in a 6-3 victory over West Liberty in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 14-5 after moving up from fifth to third in the latest NCAA Atlantic Region rankings. IUP trails only California and Mercyhurst in the region. West Liberty, ranked ninth in the region, is 9-9.
IUP began the match by sweeping the doubles, including an 8-0 win by
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) and
Kelly McBryan (Grove City/Grove City) at No. 2. Mahto and McBryan along with
Alex Ballard (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) each won their singles matches without dropping a game.
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) and
Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) split the first two sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, but lost in a super tiebreaker.
The Crimson Hawks play a pair of matches Thursday at the Maple Street Courts. IUP faces Seton Hill at noon followed by a match against Edinboro at 5:00.
