IUP lost a total of only seven games in singles in easily defeating undermanned Seton Hill and Edinboro teams in a pair of non-conference matches Thursday at the Maple Street Courts.
The Crimson Hawks are 16-5 entering their final match of the regular season Friday at Clarion. A win over the Golden Eagles will leave IUP in a three-way tie for second place in the PSAC West with Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst. IUP holds the tiebreaker advantage and would host Slippery Rock in the opening round of the conference playoffs Monday at 4:00.
The winner of that match advances to the PSAC Final Four April 21-22 at Bloomsburg. California finished 4-0 in the PSAC West and has a first round bye. East Stroudsburg plays at West Chester in the Eastern Division opening round match with the top-seeded Huskies drawing a bye.
In the wins over Seton Hill and Edinboro,
Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)),
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) and
Alex Ballard (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) each won two singles matches. The Griffins and Fighting Scots only brought five players and IUP was granted forfeit wins at No. 3 singles and doubles in both matches.
