IUP came up short in its bid for the first women's tennis championship in school history, losing to California 5-0 in the title match Friday at Bloomsburg.
The Crimson Hawks had their nine-match winning streak snapped and are 19-6 on the season. IUP will be back in action in the NCAA Atlantic Regional tournament beginning May 1 and will learn next week whether it will host one of the two subregional tournaments.
The Vulcans are 19-7 and won the conference championship for the fifth straight season. California won all three doubles matches and got singles victories from Axelle Fernandez over
Kelly McBryan (Grove City/Grove City) and Laurie Navarro over
Alex Ballard (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) at No. 5 and 6 to clinch the match.
