Historic IUP Season Ends with Loss to Armstrong Atlantic in Round of 16

Ranvita Mahto ended the season with an 11-match winning streak

The most successful season in IUP women's tennis history concluded Wednesday with a 5-0 loss to fourth-ranked  and three-time defending national champion Armstrong Atlantic in the NCAA round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Crimson Hawks finished with a record of 21-7, setting a school mark for most wins in a season, and boasted the PSAC West and Atlantic Region freshman of the year in Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)). IUP also reached the championship match in the PSAC tournament and won a regional tournament for the first time in school history.

Since her match was not completed at the time Armstrong Atlantic completed the victory, Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) was able to finish the season on an 11-match winning streak in singles.  Mahto had a season record of 25-7, two wins fewer than team leader Louhabanjong, while Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) also had a 20-win season in singles for the Crimson Hawks.

Louhabanjong was tied at three games apiece in her singles match against Barbora Krtickova, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rookie of the year.
