Women's Soccer Soars to 4-1 Win Over Mansfield

INDIANA, PA – Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech) netted two goals as the women's soccer team rolled over Mansfield by a score of 4-1 Wednesday afternoon. The Crimson Hawks are now 2-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the PSAC this season.

IUP dominated the Mountaineers from the opening kick, scoring all four goals in the first half of action. Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) struck first at the 12:02 mark when she turned a Mansfield miscommunication into a goal. Just three minutes later the Crimson Hawks began adding on when Robbins took a pass from Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) and found the back of the net.

Fabian would be involved in another IUP score at the 22:28 mark when she sent a beautiful pass into the box that Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) deposited for the goal. Ten minutes later, it Robbins scored her second goal of the game when she received a cross from Kornock and put it past the Mansfield goalkeeper.

Mansfield would cut into the lead early in the second half Erika Moyer scored in the 58th minute, but the IUP defense tightened up secured the win for the Crimson Hawks. Goalies Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown) and Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) split the time in net and combined for three saves in the win.

The Crimson Hawks travel to Kutztown on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before heading to East Stroudsburg to take on the Warriors on September 20.
