KUTZTOWN, PA –
Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech)' goal in the 97th minute vaulted the Crimson Hawks past Kutztown 2-1 in overtime in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer matchup in eastern Pennsylvania.
After several attempts at the goal, the Golden Bears got on the board first with a header by Carolynne Kahl in the 30th minute to push Kutztown to the 1-0 lead.
The offense died down for the rest of the first half, as neither team was able to get a good look, as Kutztown went into halftime with the one-score lead.
It didn't take long in the second half for IUP to tie the score, with Robbins pushing in her first goal less than six minutes in to tie the score at one-apiece.
The Crimson Hawks (3-0-1, 2-0-1) got a good look less than seven minutes later, but a shot by
Adriana Konstantinides (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) barely missed, hitting the post and keeping the score tied.
Several more attempts by IUP to take the lead went wide during the second half, leading to extra time where Robbins got the game-winner at 96:06. It would be the only shot of the overtime period.
Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown) registered five saves in goal for the Crimson Hawks, who are now one of only three undefeated teams in the PSAC this year.
IUP takes to the field on Monday, traveling to East Stroudsburg to face the Warriors. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
UPDATE: A mistake was made on the scoring for the Kutztown game, as Robbins goal came just 1:10 into the overtime period.
