Volleyball Drops Three-Setter to California

CALIFORNIA, PA – Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) had 14 kills and the Crimson Hawks played close all night but IUP lost to rival California in three sets in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West women's volleyball match on Tuesday night.

The Vulcans squeaked out a 25-23 win in the first set and had to rally for a 29-27 win in the second before posting a 25-17 victory in the third to close out the match.

The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 18-10 overall, 6-6 in the PSAC West while California is now 21-4 and 10-2 in the division.

Cerveny had 14 kills on 35 attacks while Sarah Smiley (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) added nine kills and Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had nine. Sarah Alman (Indiana/Indiana) finished with 29 assists and on the defensive side, Erika Lentz led with 19 digs and Kelly Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley) added 18. Schneider, Smiley and Ellen Fordon (Chicago, IL/Lincoln-Way East) each had three block assists.

IUP is back in action this weekend with a trip to Mercyhurst for a 7:00 p.m. match on Saturday night.
