Box Score
KUTZTOWN, PA -
Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) netted her seventh goal of the season late in the second half, but the Crimson Hawks were unable to tally a game-winner in overtime, as the IUP women's soccer team tied Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) leading Kutztown 1-1 Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half in which the Crimson Hawks were unable to muster a single shot on goal, IUP would break the scoreless tie in the 71st minute when
Taylor Vladic (Duncansville, Pa. /Hollidaysburg) intercepted a Kutztown goal kick in the box and fired a shot at Golden Bears goalkeeper Elly Skinner. Skinner was able to make the save, but Vladic would rebound the shot and find Fabian wide open for the goal to give the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead with just under 20 minutes to play.
The lead would be short-lived, however, as Rayann Fink deposited the game-tying goal at the 79:27 mark off of an assist from Amy Dando. The Golden Bears would fire a pair of shots in the closing moments of regulation but neither attempt found the net.
The Crimson Hawks would combine for a trio of shots in the extra sessions including one from
Sharee McCarty (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) with just over a minute to play in the second overtime period, but the attempt sailed wide.
Kutztown outshot IUP 26-7 in the game, but Crimson Hawks goalkeeper
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) tallied six saves and allowed just the one goal in 110 minutes of action.
With the tie, the Crimson Hawks are now 8-5-3, 5-5-2 in the PSAC, while Kutztown moves to 10-4-2, 9-2-2 in the conference. IUP wraps up its three-game road trip on Wednesday at Millersville before returning home on October 27 to host Clarion. Game time Wednesday is set for 4:00 p.m.
