Crimson Hawks on Opposite Ends of a Pair of Three-Set Wins on Saturday

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA – Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) again led the way for the Crimson Hawks with 20 kills as IUP split its two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover women's volleyball matches on Saturday.

Cerveny tallied 12 in a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg and added eight more in a 3-0 loss to Lock Haven.

IUP racked up wins of 25-18, 26-24 and 27-25 over the Warriors, as Cerveny totaled 13.5 points in the match. Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had six kills in 12 attacks while Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) added five.

Sarah Alman (Indiana/Indiana) tallied 29 assists while Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) and Aubree Frye (Indiana/Indiana) had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Crimson Hawks played Lock Haven tight in the opening match later in the day, holding leads of 4-0 and 6-3 early. The Bald Eagles came back to tie the score at 8-8 but IUP quickly got its lead back to four with a 5-1 run to make it 13-9.

The Crimson Hawks were still up by four later at 16-12 before Lock Haven took a one-point lead after a 6-1 run. IUP didn't stay down for long, responding with a 5-0 run to go back on top 22-18. The Crimson Hawks would remain on top at 24-21 but couldn't quite close out the set as Lock Haven finished with five straight points for the 26-24 win.

The second set starting tight as it was all tied up at 7-7 but Lock Haven broke it wide open with an 11-1 run before finishing it off by scoring the last six points en route to a 25-11 win. The third set again saw a 7-7 tie before Lock Haven went on a 7-2 run to take a 14-9 lead. The Bald Eagles later extended their lead to 20-13 before finishing off the 25-16 victory.

Schneider had five kills against the Bald Eagles while Stephanie Kruzynski (Oxford/Oxford) added four. Alman finished with 22 assists and Kelly Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley) had 16 digs. Ellen Fordon (Chicago, IL/Lincoln-Way East) finished with four total blocks.

The Crimson Hawks (16-8, 5-4) are on the road at Shepherd Tuesday before returning home next weekend for matches against Slippery Rock and Clarion on Friday and Saturday.
