Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) scored a pair of goals to help lift IUP over Mansfield 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer matchup on Tuesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

It was Kuhns' fourth two-goal game of the season, pushing her to a team-leading 10 goals this year.

All of the scoring was done in the first half for IUP (8-4-2, 5-4-1), with Kuhns scoring on a breakaway in the 12th minute for the Crimson Hawks first goal of the game.

It was another quick goal as Kuhns scored her second just three minutes later to give IUP a 2-0 advantage before 15 minutes had ticked away on the clock. Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) had the assists on the opening goal while Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) helped on the second.

The third IUP goal came off the foot of Anna-Kate DePaolo (Perkasie/Pennridge), as she knocked in a loose corner kick off the foot Sharee McCarty (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) in the 29th minute.

The Crimson Hawks dominated the offensive end in the first half, out-shooting Mansfield 7-2 with four corner kicks to the Mountaineers zero.

The second half was toned down in scoring but the toughness began to come out in both teams with one yellow and one red card handed out over a nine-minute span.

Although the ball would remain mostly on IUP's defensive end during the last 20 minutes of action, the defense refused to allow a decent shot for the Mountaineers, keeping them scoreless and preserving the shutout victory.

With five wins in their last six contests, the Crimson Hawks have climbed out of the cellar of the PSAC and finished today's game in fifth place with 16 points.

IUP hits the road for its next three games, with the first coming against Edinboro this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
