FAIRMONT, WV - Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) went over 1,000 career points as she helped IUP to a 50-47 win over Fairmont State in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Pastorek recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, both game-highs, helping the 2-0 Crimson Hawks to the tight win.

The victory also included another milestone for the Crimson Hawks, as head coach Jeff Dow won his 200th career game, stretching his all-time record to 200-97. Now in his fifth season at IUP, Dow has a record of 87-31 with the program.

Fairmont State had a seven point lead over the Crimson Hawks during the first three minutes play until Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) sunk a three-ball and Pastorek knocked down a jumper, her milestone point, to make it 7-5 less than four minutes in.

Pastorek got the next two buckets for the Crimson Hawks as they kept the Fairmont State lead at four, trailing 13-9 just a few minutes later. Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) then jump started a 9-0 run for IUP, tipping in missed layup before Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) added a free throw and Pastorek hit another jumper. Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) added a fastbreak layup off a Pastorek defensive board and Stoner had another tip-in as IUP took an 18-13 lead with 8:05 left in the half.

Fairmont State rallied to tie the score at 18-18, but Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) got an easy lay in and Stamp followed with six straight points to put IUP back in front 26-20. The Falcons responded with a three by Emily Lohr and Tiffany Nicholson added a pair of free throws at the end of the half as IUP took a 28-27 lead into the break.

The teams traded buckets in the second half but would both cold from the floor until a jumper by Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) tied the game at 32-32 at the 14:49 mark.

Lohr hit another three for the Falcons to take a 35-32 but Watson answered with a three of her own to end another scoreless streak.

The Crimson Hawks and Fairmont State would go back and forth with the lead, trading baskets until the Falcons went on top 42-39 with a fastbreak layup by Nicholson. Pastorek answered with a pair of free throws and Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) would hit a jumper to put IUP in front by three at 45-42 with 5:42 left on the clock.

A layup by Watson followed by a free throw by Stoner helped give IUP a six point advantage with 1:07 left until the Falcons Kaitlin Snyder nailed a triple to cut it to three with 49 seconds on the clock. Fairmont State got one final good possession as the second ticked down, but the IUP defense turned away any decent shot, as the Crimson Hawks held on to the three-point win.

Lohr led the Falcons with 13 points, adding seven rebounds in 31 minutes. IUP limited Fairmont State to 33.3 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers.
