INDIANA, PA – It was another fun meet on Friday night as the IUP men's and women's swim teams hit 29 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times as the Crimson Hawks swept Shippensburg at the Pidgeon Natatorium.
The men won 122-80 while the women were victorious 109-91 over the Raiders.
The Crimson Hawks won nine events on the men's side, getting a pair of victories from
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion),
Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) and Matthew Nakagama. In addition to his two wins, Hopkins hit conference meet qualifying marks in both the 1000 free and 200 breast while McWhorter hit qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 free. Nakagama hit marks in both the 500 and 1000 free.
David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) and
Rudy Da Costa (Durban, KZN, South Africa/Westville Boys') also had a pair of PSAC qualifying marks, as Donovan had his in the 200 and 500 free while Da Costa had them in the 200 IM and 200 back.
Also having good evenings with conference qualifying marks were
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) and
Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) in the 200 fly; and
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del/Salesianum) in the 1000 free.
The women won seven events on the evening with 12 different swimmers hitting PSAC qualifying times.
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) again had a nice meet with a pair of qualifying times in the 200 IM and 200 breast while
Stephanie Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber) also hit PSAC times in the same events.
Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) and
Dana Steinert (Kent, Ohio/Kent Theodore Roosevelt) hit their times in the 500 free while Janosky also got hers in the 1000 free and Steinert in the 200 free.
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and
Michelle Giordani (Sunbury/Line Mountain) continued the IUP success in the 200 free with two more qualifying times while Long also hit her time in the 200 back.
Also picking up PSAC qualifying times were
Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) in the 50 free;
Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville) and
Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) in the 100 free; Allison Humphries in the 200 fly; and
Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) in the 200 breast.
The Crimson Hawks return to the pool tomorrow as they travel down to West Virginia for a dual meet against Wheeling Jesuit.
