No. 19 IUP Cruises to Win over Ursuline

INDIANA, PA – Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) and Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) each scored in double-figures as the 19th-ranked IUP women's basketball team defeated Ursuline 73-24 in non-conference action on Wednesday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

With the win the Crimson Hawks move to 4-0 on the season as 12 different players reached the scoring column.

Pastorek and Stoner each scored 10 points, with Pastorek shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor in just 12 minutes of action. Stoner grabbed five rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

Ursuline (0-6) played tough early, as back-to-back three-pointers by Laura Campbell tied the score at 8-8 at the 16:45 mark. The Crimson Hawks responded with three straight layups, including a pair by Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center), jumpstarting an 18-2 run over the next 9:53. Five different players scored on the run to make it 28-10, with six points coming from Pastorek and four of the hands of Fairman and Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel).

Another three by Campbell stopped the run before the Crimson Hawks finished out the half 11 consecutive points, including three straight layups by Stoner to head into the break up 39-13.

IUP continued its momentum into the start of the second half, scoring nine straight points to take a 48-14 lead. The Crimson Hawks continued to build on that lead as they outscored the Arrows by a margin of 34-11 in the second stanza en route to the 49-point win.

The Crimson Hawks held Ursuline to a 20.5 percent field goal percentage, converting just 8-of-39 from the floor. IUP outrebounded the Arrows 52-25; grabbing 24 offensive rebounds, and forced 28 turnovers.

Fairman ended the night with six points on 3-of-4 shooting with four assists and three steals in 16 minutes while Watson had six points, three assists and two steals in 17 minutes. Alexis Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Allegheny) scored nine points off the bench while Jessica Wallace (Vanderhoof, BC/Nechako Valley Secondary) added eight points and five assists and Melanie Todd (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Crimson Hawks return to action this weekend as they open up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at Eastern Division foes Cheyney on Saturday and West Chester on Sunday.
