AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks will face their toughest battle of the season in possibly the nation's game of the week as they travel to Erie to face 10th-ranked Gannon on Saturday. IUP enters with a perfect record after a 2-0 weekend in the season's first PSAC crossover. The Lady Knights have just one loss on the season, a 70-59 setback to No. 1 Ashland.
LAST TIME OUT
IUP opened conference play last weekend with a pair of victories over PSAC East foes Cheyney and West Chester on the road. The Crimson Hawks had an easy time with the Wolves on Saturday, forcing 37 turnovers en route to an 81-39 victory. They followed that up by shooting 55 pct. in a 94-65 win over West Chester. Jr. G
Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) averaged 17.5 ppg on the weekend while So. G
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) scored 15.5 ppg with 9.0 rpg. Stamp and So. F
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) each recorded a double-double over the weekend.
SCORING WEEKEND
Watson had a tremendously good shooting weekend, averaging 17.5 ppg with a 75.0 FG% (12-16). She scored 14 points on 4-6 FGs in 20 minutes against Cheyney before exploding for a career-high 21 points on 8-10 FGs in 30 minutes against West Chester. Watson also went a combined 6-8 from 3-point range, including 4-6 against the Rams.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
One of the most dominant players in IUP history, Pastorek sits in 19th place on the Crimson Hawks all-time scoring list with 1,056 points. She is on pace to break into the top five this year. Pastorek is just 25 points shy of passing Jacqui Miller (2000-04) for 18th on the list.
FIRST OFF THE BENCH
A great addition this year has been Stamp, who 10.3 ppg in 17 mpg off the bench. She's reached double-figures twice and had her first career double-double against Cheyney on Saturday (13 pts, 10 reb). Stamp has a 42.6 FG% and averages 5.8 rpg.
NCAA RANKINGS
The Crimson Hawks moved up five spots to No. 14 in the latest Division II ESPN/USA TODAY Coaches' Poll with their 6-0 start to the season. IUP is one of three PSAC schools in the top 25 with rivals Gannon and Bloomsburg at in 10th and 16th, respectively.
THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) enters his fifth season as the head coach of the IUP women's basketball program after leading the Crimson Hawks to a record of 23-7, 17-5 in the PSAC, and an appearance in the Atlantic Region Semifinals a season ago. Earlier this season, Dow eclipsed 200 wins in his head coaching career and has a career record of 206-97.
