OLEAN, NY – After taking a point with a pair of doubles wins, the Crimson Hawks dropped four singles matches as IUP fell to Division I St. Bonaventure 4-3 in a tough fought match on Friday evening in New York.
IUP dropped its match at number two doubles 8-4 before the pair of
Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) took an 8-5 win over Marissa Brossard and Amanda Pallikunnel at number one.
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) and
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) then posted a nice 8-4 at number three over Riley Archer and Kathryn Kvas as the Crimson Hawks took the point from the doubles win. Because IUP was playing against a Division I school, the winner of the most doubles matches records a point.
In singles action,
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) dropped her match to Brossard at number three 6-2, 6-2 and Louhabanjong also lost to Manuela Marin 6-3, 6-1 as the Bonnies took a 2-1 lead.
Eaton then lost her match 6-1, 7-5 to Fatya Amiri at number two before
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) rallied for a 6-3, 7-5 victory at number four over Pallikunnel, fighting off three break points for the important win as IUP trailed 3-2.
Schnaas then picked up the match-tying victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number six over Andrea Pavlovic, but St. Bonaventure closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) at the fifth spot to claim the win.
The Crimson Hawks continue with their three-match weekend road trip to New York, as they play Colgate on Saturday.
