IUP Blanks Winston-Salem State in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, SC - The 29th-ranked IUP women's tennis team worked through a rain delay on Wednesday, easily handling Winston-Salem State 9-0 in non-conference action in Hilton Head.

IUP (7-3) came in ranked second in the Atlantic region while Winston-Salem (7-6) is ranked ninth.

In doubles action, Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) posted the easiest victory, beating Bianka Locklear and Kalin Jarvis 8-2 at number one. Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) teamed with Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) at number two for an 8-3 win over Sloane Holmes and Kayla Carter while Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) finished up with an 8-5 win over Chelsea Chatman and Taylor Harris at number three.

Louhabanjong picked up another win in singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number one over Holmes. Eaton got the win at number two, defeating Carter 6-2, 7-5, while Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) easily beat Dominique Lindsay at number three, 6-1, 6-0. Also getting another win in singles action was Mahto, defeating Harris 6-2, 6-1 at number six.

Due to the rain delay, Timko and Schnaas both played pro sets in singles action, as Timko beat Locklear 8-1 at three and Schnaas defeated Chatman 8-3 at number five.

This begins a run of three matches in three days as the Crimson Hawks travel to Augusta, Georgia to face Augusta State and Georgia College on Thursday and Friday.
