Women's Tennis Falls to Augusta State

AUGUSTA, GA - The 29th-ranked IUP women's tennis team dropped its match in Georgia to Augusta State 6-3 in non-conference spring break action on Thursday afternoon. The loss to the ninth ranked team in the Southeast region evens the Crimson Hawks record on its spring trip to 2-2.

IUP (7-4) picked up one win in doubles play as the team of Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) and Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) easily defeated Roberta Oliveira and Julia Fontaine 8-3 at number two.

Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) lost at in the first top to Augusta State's Liv Pettersson and Victoria Lindqvist 8-0 while Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) lost to Marina Ferreria and Lissa Murakami 8-4 at number three.

In singles action, Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) won her sixth straight match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number five over Murakami. The other singles victory came from Timko, who's won five of her last six contests, defeating Pettersson at number three 6-3, 6-2.

Ferreria got the best of Louhabanjong at number one 6-4, 6-2 while Lindqvist defeated Eaton 6-1, 6-2 at number two. The Jaguars other two victories in singles play were at number four as Oliveira defeated Osborne 6-1, 7-5 and Fontaine took down Schnaas 6-4, 6-2 at number six.

The Crimson Hawks wrap up their spring trip on Friday as they stay in Augusta to face Georgia College. They'll return to Pennsylvania next weekend, traveling to Division I Lehigh in Bethlehem on March 23.
