IUP Drops Tough Match to Georgia College

AUGUSTA, GA - The Crimson Hawks played a hard fought match on Friday in a battle of ranked teams but 15th-ranked Georgia College was too much, defeating 29th-ranked IUP 7-2 in a non-conference women's tennis matchup in Georgia.

The match was played at the home of Augusta State, which IUP played on Thursday.

The Crimson Hawks (7-5) put together competitive doubles matches, as Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) scored an 8-6 win over May Johnson and Michelle Lingner at number one. 

At number three, the pairing of Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) nearly took down their counterparts, falling to Ivana Marevic and Leah Pridgeon 9-8 (7-3) in the tiebreaker. Emilia Osborne and Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) also fell, losing 8-2 to Kayla Barksdale and Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio at number two.

In singles action, Schnaas posted IUP's lone win with a three-set 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 win over Lingner in the sixth spot.

Timko went three sets, going back and forth with Marevic in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 loss at number three. Osborne also went three sets in a loss, falling to Pridgeon 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 at number five.

Louhabanjong fell at number one to to Setyon-Ortenzio 6-1, 6-3 while McCormick lost to Barksdale 6-2, 7-5 at four.

The Crimson Hawks return to the courts next Friday when they travel East to Bethlehem to play Division I Lehigh.
