Women's Tennis Makes it Four Straight with Win over Ashland

INDIANA, PA - The Crimson Hawks picked up a win at each of the first three singles spots and in two doubles matchups as 41st-ranked IUP scored its fourth straight win with a 7-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over Ashland on Saturday afternoon.

Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) started things off in doubles with an 8-0 shutout win at number three over Ashland's pair of Kira Kotova and Sally Trout before Tabtip Louhanbanjong and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) had an almost equally easy 8-1 win at number one over Torrie Goudy and Paige Cooper.

Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) and Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) dropped their match at number two to Erika Sullivan and Zdenka Pozo, a hard fought 8-6 final score.

On the singles side, IUP picked up a default win at number six and went ahead in the match 4-1 when Osborne defeated Trout 6-0, 6-1 at number five.

The clinching win for the Crimson Hawks came at number three when Eaton took down Cooper 6-2, 6-2, as she improved to a perfect 6-0 at that spot on the season.

After Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) fell to Pozo 6-2, 6-1 at four, the Crimson Hawks picked up wins at the top two spots as Louhabanjong defeated Goudy 6-3, 6-3 at one and Timko took down Sullivan 7-5, 6-4 at two.

The Crimson Hawks (11-5, 1-0) will host eighth-ranked Cal on Sunday afternoon in a battle between the top two teams in the Atlantic region. Originally scheduled for noon, the match will now get underway at 11:00 a.m.
