No. 41 IUP Blanks Clairon in Final Regular Season Match

INDIANA, PA - Five Crimson Hawks had two wins as 41st-ranked IUP scored an easy 9-0 win over Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's tennis match on Friday afternoon. It was the regular season finale for the Crimson Hawks as they head into the conference tournament with an 18-6 overall mark, 4-1 in PSAC West play. They'll host Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

IUP surrendered just five points in doubles play, including an 8-1 win at number one at Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) defeated Jaclyn Metzger and Madeline Robinson. At three, Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) also had an 8-1 win, defeating Lauren Rhine and Claire Kerstetter.

Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) scored an 8-3 win in the other doubles match, defeating Megan Bettwy and Caitlin Clemons at number two.

It was more dominance by the Crimson Hawks in singles play, as Schnaas defeated Michaela Hardy 6-0, 6-0 at six. Timko and Eaton had nearly equally easy wins at two and three, respectively, as Timko beat Bettwy 6-0, 6-1 and Eaton defeated Robinson 6-1, 6-0.

At one, Louhabanjong defeated Metzger 6-1, 6-2 while Osborne won at five, 6-1, 6-4 over Kerstetter. Playing at four, Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) defeated Rhine 6-2, 6-3.

With their 4-1 record in the PSAC West, the Crimson Hawks earned the number two seed and will host third seed Slippery Rock, which finished the season with a 3-2 division mark. The quarterfinals match will start at 4:00 on Tuesday at IUP's Maple Street Courts.
