Women's Tennis Downs West Liberty in Atlantic Region Opening Round

INDIANA, PA - Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) both had two wins on the day as the IUP women's tennis team advanced to the second day of the Atlantic Regional opening round the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships with a 5-0 win over West Liberty on Saturday at the Maple Street Courts.

The Crimson Hawks set the tone early in the match when they swept the doubles portion of the match. The second doubles team of Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) rolled to an 8-0 win over Alex Barr and Emma Windsor, while Mahto and Schnaas downed Sarah Howells and Christina Pauley 8-2 at third doubles. The first doubles pair of    at thirdaa  at  sdsdfdsfdsfdsfddsdfs Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win over Lauren Howard and Raissa Wischi.

It would take just two singles matches to seal the victory for IUP as Schnaas and Mahto both cruised to straight-set wins. Schnaas downs Pauley 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles, while Mahto capped a dominant showing by the Crimson Hawks with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Poling.

With the win, the Crimson Hawks advance to the second round of the Atlantic Region Championship where they will face Charleston (WV), who defeated Slippery Rock 5-3 Saturday evening. Tomorrow's match is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
