GREENSBURG, PA - Six Crimson Hawks chipped in goals as IUP defeated Seton Hill 6-0 in a non-conference women's soccer matchup on Thursday afternoon as both schools competed in their 2012 season openers.
The first goal of the 2012 season for IUP went to
Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson), as she scored on a penalty kick in the 15th minute.
Fabian then assisted on the following goal for the Crimson Hawks, as
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) knocked one past the Seton Hill keeper in the 27th minute. IUP would get one more goal before the end of the first half, when newcomer
Kate Numer (Lebanon, Pa. /Cedar Crest) threaded the back of the net off a pass from
Rachel McCarriher (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) with less than two minutes to go.
It didn't take long for IUP to score its first goal of the second half, as Numer and McCarriher hooked up again, but this time it was the latter who scored, just 35 seconds in.
Six minutes later
Lindsay Lobevero (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) made it 5-0 off a second assist from McCarriher before
Nicole Miller (South Park/South Park) scored on a nice direct kick, finding the top corner of the net to finish off the scoring for the Crimson Hawks in the 54th minute.
Getting the start in the net for IUP was
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon), who went the first 74 scoreless minutes and saved five shots.
Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge) came in late and notched a save in 16 minutes on the field.
The Crimson Hawks (1-0) are back in action on Saturday in their home opener when they host Wheeling Jesuit at 4:00 p.m. at South Campus Field.
