Women's Soccer Falls to PSAC Rival California

CALIFORNIA, PA – Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) made three saves for IUP, but the Hawks fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival California 4-0 Saturday on the road. 

The Vulcans (4-1-0) opened up the scoring early with a goal at the 9:21 mark with a corner kick goal by Megan Politowski. Cal followed up with another goal at the 14:33 mark off a shot from Janelle McCann. 

The Hawks were unable to answer during the first half but managed five shots in the first period. Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) led the Hawks scoring attempts with three shots, two in the first period and one in the second. 

Cal's Haley Henderson scored the Vulcan's third goal of the game at the 54:45 mark. Henderson scored again at the 69:17 mark to solidify the win for Cal.

The Crimson Hawks were able to put up three shots in the second period but their efforts were stopped by Ashley Magruda who made four saves for the Vulcans. 

Hricik played 62:00 minutes in the net and split time in the net with Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge) who played 23:37. Schoellkopf made two saves. 

The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Slippery Rock. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
