Eaton, Timko and Osborne to Compete in Semifinal Matchups at PSAC Individual Tennis Championships

BLOOMSBURG, PA – Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) advanced to the semifinals of singles bracket while Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne moved on to the same spot on the doubles side as IUP competed in the first day of the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Tennis Individual Championships on Saturday at Bloomsburg University. 

On the singles side, Eaton, one of the four No. 5-8 seeds, shut out Amina Dickson of East Stroudsburg University 6-0, 6-0 in her first match and followed that up with a victory over Oranza Carrillo of Edinboro, 6-1, 7-5 before defeating Michelle Perez of Bloomsburg 6-1, 6-3. She will face Lucie Ray of Cal in the semifinal round. 

Timko, the third seed, made it to the quarterfinal match after defeating Caitlin Flynn of Bloomsburg 6-2, 6-0 and teammate Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) 6-4, 0-6, (10-1). Timko fell to Caroline Bristol of Mercyhurst 7-6 (4), 6-0. 

In the doubles bracket, Timko and  Osborne, the second seeded duo, advanced to the semifinals round after defeating Melissa Plowman and Kelsey Waite of Millersville 8-5 and Natalie Greenholt and Nicole Slagle of Bloomsburg 8-5. Timko and Osborne will face Kelsey Love and Janelle Krantz of Slippery Rock on Sunday. 

Also competing in the doubles tournament was duo Eaton and Erika Schnass. They won their opening round against Hanna Pipki and Ridhima Borooah of Kutztown 8-0, but fell to Love and Krantz 8-5. 

The doubles semifinals are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, followed by the finals at 10 a.m. The singles will take to the court for their semifinals matchups at 11 a.m. and the winners will compete in the finals at 1 p.m.
