Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) two goals and two assists propelled IUP to victory as they defeated Bloomsburg 5-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.
With three straight wins, IUP moves to 6-3-2 on the year with a 3-3-1 record in PSAC play.
Bloomsburg got the ball rolling within the first minute of play as Brooke Mohney's kick rolled past goalie
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) to put the Huskies on top 1-0. The Hawks didn't find the back of the net until the 8:17 mark when Kuhns found
Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) as she scored to tie the game at 1-1. Tara Huber almost gave the Huskies the lead going into the half with a close ball that hit the top post of the goal in the 38th minute.
Kuhns wasted no time in the second half to put IUP on top 2-1, scoring after a nice ball from
Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove). Five minutes later Kuhns found Fabian with a cross from the left wing to make the score 3-1.
The scoring continued, as Huber got her second on a penalty kick after an IUP yellowcard in the 58th minute, cutting the Hawks lead to 3-2.
The Hawks didn't let the penatly kick give the Huskies any momentum, as Kuhns scored one minute later off another nice pass from Fabian to put IUP up 4-2. Fisher took it again to the Bloomsburg goalie putting the ball in the back right corner at the 66:19 mark as the Hawks got the final score of the game.
IUP had the shot advantage 15-9, outshooting the Huskies 12-5 in the second half. Hricik and
Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge) each had one save in net.
The Crimson Hawks take the field again on Wednesday as they travel to Erie to face against Mercyhurst. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
