Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Sharee McCarty (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley)'s goal in the 13th minute knotted the score at 1-1 but West Chester quickly responded and shutout the Crimson Hawks as IUP fell to the 22nd-ranked Golden Rams 3-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both schools on Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

The Golden Rams (3-0, 1-0) took the lead in the sixth minute when Melissa McKeary hit the top right corner of the goal. McCarty answered seven minutes later, taking a pass from Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) just outside the 18 and nailing the top right corner to tie the score.

West Chester went back on the offensive, however, as Ashley Saylor heading in the go-ahead less than three minutes later. The Rams would put up five more shots in the half, but they were either saved by goalie Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) or forced wide of the net by the IUP defense.

The lead was extended by West Chester nine minutes into the second when Carly Yost found the net off a corner kick.

The Crimson Hawks tried to rally, with shots down the stretch coming from Fabian, Kaitlyn Cooper (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional), Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) and Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), all shots were turned away by the Rams defense.

Hricik went the entire way in the net for IUP, notching four saves.

The Crimson Hawks look to get back on track this Saturday when they travel to West Virginia to take on Alderson Broaddus. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
