No. 16 Women's Hoops Hosts PSAC Crossover this Weekend

AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks return home as they play their final two games against PSAC East foes, hosting Shippensburg and Millersville this weekend. IUP will host the Raiders at the KCAC on Friday, Jan. 11 and the Marauders on Saturday, Jan. 12, with tipoffs set for 5:30 p.m. each day. The Crimson Hawks enter the weekend with a 10-3 overall record and tied for 3rd in the West with a 5-2 conference mark. Shippensburg is one of four teams tied for 2nd in the East with a 4-3 record while Millersville tops the division with a 5-2 record.

LAST TIME OUT
IUP split its PSAC crossover road games last weekend, defeating ESU 67-49 and losing to Kutztown 68-62. Sr. F Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) had a big night on Friday with a season-high 25 points against the Warriors while So. G Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) had a career-high 25 in the loss to Kutztown. So. G Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds over the weekend.

CLIMBING THE LADDER
One of the most dominant players in IUP history, Sr. F Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) sits in 16th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,151 points. Currently on pace to break into the top five this year, Pastorek is 2 points away from passing Molly Carr (1995-99) for 15th on the list. She's also 6th in FTs made (285), 13th in rebounds (576) and 15th in FGs made (431).

A LOCAL FAVORITE
So. G Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) is averaging 12.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in IUP last 6 games, scoring a career-high 25 points against Kutztown. The Indiana HS product's scoring average has gone from 7.0 to 9.7 during the streak, also making 13 3's, including 5 against the Golden Bears.

CRASHING THE BOARDS
Leading the team in rebounding is Jr. F Melanie Todd (Springfield, VA/West Springfield), pulling down 6.2 rpg in just 18.0 mpg off the bench. Averaging an impressive 13.8 rpg per 40 minutes of action. She has at least 8 rebounds in 5 different games and is averaging 7.2 in the Crimson Hawks last 5 contests.

NCAA RANKINGS
The Crimson Hawks how up at No. 16 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Top 25 poll, dropping four spots after going 4-2 since the last poll was released. They've played three games against ranked schools, defeating Bloomsburg and falling to Gannon and Rollins.

THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) is in his fifth season as the head coach at IUP, leading the Crimson Hawks to a 23-7 record and an appearance in the Atlantic Region Semifinals last year. Earlier this season, Dow eclipsed 200 wins in his head coaching career and has a record of 207-99, including a 95-34 mark at IUP.
