Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Four Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures to help the IUP women's basketball team to a second half comeback and its 600th program victory in a 74-71 win over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action.

IUP now has an all-time record of 600-414 since 1971, a winning percentage of .592.

The win puts the 16th-ranked Crimson Hawks at 11-3 this season, including a 6-2 mark in the PSAC which is good enough for a three-way tie for second place in the West.

Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) led the way with 20 points, making a living from the foul line by going 12-of-14 and added five rebounds in 31 minutes of action. It was her fourth 20-point game in the last seven contests.

Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) scored 16 points, grabbing four rebounds while Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) had another solid outing with 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Fairman finished 5-of-8 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) came off the bench to score 15 points to go along with four assists. She also found success from the charity stripe, going 8-of-10.

It was a rough start for the Crimson Hawks as Shippensburg (8-5, 4-4) got out to a quick 8-3 lead with the help of back-to-back three-pointers. IUP responded with 10 straight points to take a 13-8 lead midway through the half before the Raiders grabbed a lead with just over five minutes remaining and took a 34-31 advantage into the break.

Shippensburg extended its lead to six on its very first possession of the second half with a three-pointer but the Crimson Hawks slowly chipped away, tying the score at 43-43 with a layup by Fairman with 13:52 remaining.

A 14-3 run by the Crimson Hawks opened up a 58-48 lead with 8:04 remaining, eventually making it an 11-point advantage with 4:26 to go. The Raiders fought back, however, narrowing it to two with less than a minute to go but IUP held them off in the final few possessions to hold on for the win.

Sarah Strybuc led the way for Shippensburg with 20 points and six assists.

The Crimson Hawks shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the floor but outrebounded Shippensburg 40-25. A combined 74 free throws were taken between the teams, with IUP finishing 30-of-37.

IUP is back in action tomorrow night with its final PSAC crossover game of the season against Millersville. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
