INDIANA, PA - The men's and women's IUP swim teams finished off the Crimson Hawk Dual Invitational with 32 conference qualifying marks on Saturday as they picked up three combined wins over visiting Gannon and Bloomsburg at the Pidgeon Natatorium.
The women defeated Gannon 223-108 and Bloomsburg 205-126 while the men beat Gannon 167-161 and fell to Bloomsburg 175-154.
Each team had a total of 16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times in the two sessions on Saturday, while both squads also notched six individual event winners during the day.
On the women's side,
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West),
Taylor Snyder (Titusville, Pa. /Titusville) (200 free, 100 free),
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) (100 back, 200 back),
Michelle Giordani (Sunbury/Line Mountain) (200 free, 200 fly),
Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) (100 back, 100 free), and
Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) (100 breast, 200 breast) each hit a pair of qualifying standards apiece, while Mitidieri took first place in both the 400 IM and 200 breast.
Also qualifiers for the women were
Stephanie Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber) (400 IM),
Katie Lehman (Cary, NC/Green Hope) (100 fly),
Dana Steinert (Kent, Ohio/Kent Theodore Roosevelt) (200 free) and
Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) (100 free).
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) boasted three PSAC qualifying times on Saturday in the 400 IM, 1000 free and 1650 free time trial. Five other men's swimmers hit a pair of conference qualifying marks, including
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del/Salesianum) (400 IM, 1000 free);
Matt Nakagama (Columbia, MD/Atholton) (400 IM, 200 fly);
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) (100 fly, 200 fly);
Alex Cummings (Altoona/Altoona) (100 breast, 200 breast); and Zack Fountain (100 breast, 200 breast).
Also hitting conference times were Vinny Hall in the 400 IM,
Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) in the 100 fly and
Logan Mudlo (Kittanning/Kittanning) in the 500 free time trial.
This was the final tune up for the Crimson Hawks before the 2013 PSAC Swimming Championships held February 14-17 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg. The NCAA championships are set for March 6-9 in Birmingham, Alabama.
