AT A GLANCE
Coming off of their largest scoring output in over four years, the Crimson Hawks return to the court this Wednesday night on the road at Lock Haven. IUP is currently in 3rd place in the PSAC West with a 9-4 conference record, winning three of its last four. The Bald Eagles have lost each of their last three contests and are tied for 7th in the West with a 3-10 record.
LAST TIME OUT
For the 11th time in program history, IUP reached the century mark as the Crimson Hawks blew out Mercyhurst 100-47 last Saturday night at home. Five players scored in double-figures, led by So. F
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson), So. G
Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and Fr. G
Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic), who each dropped 14 points. It was the first time since Nov. 16, 2008 that IUP scored at least 100 points - W 108-21 vs. Salem International.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
One of the most dominant players in IUP history, Sr. F
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) sits in 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,233 points. Currently on pace to break into the top five this year, Pastorek is 33 points away from passing Julie Kibler (1979-83) for 9th on the list. She's also 5th in FTs made (319), 11th in rebounds (609) and tied for 13th in FGs made (455).
BY A WIDE MARGIN
With a 53-point spread last Saturday, the Crimson Hawks improved their scoring margin to +14.7 on the season, good for 2nd in the PSAC. In IUP's 14 victories this year, its margin is an impressive +22.7, with nine being by at least 15 points.
HITTING THE “3”
The Crimson Hawks are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the PSAC, converting at a 34.1 pct (107-314) clip through 19 games. With 5.63 made per game, they're on pace to threaten the school's all-time mark 3's in a season of 184 in 2004-05. At this current rate they'll need 33 games to do so but with a 28-game regular season and an expanded PSAC tournament and potential NCAA postseason run, this team record could fall this year.
NCAA RANKINGS
Despite that huge win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, a 1-1 overall week bumped the Crimson Hawks out of the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 for the first time since Oct. 30. Prior to this week's rankings release IUP had been a part of the top 25 for eight consecutive weeks.
THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) is in his fifth season as the head coach at IUP, leading the Crimson Hawks to a pair of NCAA tournaments (2009, 2012) and a PSAC championship during a 26-6 debut season in 2008-09. Earlier this season, Dow eclipsed 200 wins in his head coaching career and has a record of 211-101, including a 99-36 mark at IUP.
