12th-Ranked IUP Faces East Stroudsburg and Kutztown this Weekend

AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks hit the the road as they return to PSAC action at East Stroudsburg and Kutztown weekend. IUP will face the Warriors on Friday, Jan. 4 and the Golden Bears on Saturday, Jan. 5, with tipoffs set for 5:30 p.m. each day. The Crimson Hawks enter the weekend with a 9-2 overall record and tied for 2nd in the West with a 4-1 conference mark. With identical 3-2 PSAC records, ESU and Kutztown are tied for 2nd in the East.

LAST TIME OUT
IUP split its two games at the Rollins Holiday Classic in Florida, defeating Cedarville 78-73 before falling to the host Tars 56-52. In the opening game, the Crimson Hawks erased a nine-point second half deficit as Sr. F Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) scored 23 points in just 27 minutes of action. In the loss to Rollins, IUP held a late five-point lead before the Tars rallied. So. F Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) scored 15 points in 25 minutes off the bench.

CLIMBING THE LADDER
One of the most dominant players in IUP history, Sr. F Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) sits in 17th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,124 points. Currently on pace to break into the top five this year, Pastorek is 18 points away from passing Staci Heberling (2005-09) for 16th on the list. She's also 8th in FTs made (272), 13th in rebounds (569) and 15th in FGs made (424).

ALL-AROUND PLAYER
So. G Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) is probably the most versitile player on the roster as she has a 48.2 FG%, leads the team in assists (26) and steals (25), and has averaged 4.6 rpg over the last 5 games. She has a 1.23 assist-to-turnover ratio this year and is averaging 11.5 points with a 56.3 FG% (9-16) over the last 2 games.

PLAYING BIG
Playing an important role this year has been Fr. G Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic), who has started each of the last 4 games and leads the team with a 1.25 assist-to-turnover ratio. She's 10-14 in her last 3 games and scored 14 points with 0 turnovers in 33 minutes against Mansfield.

NCAA RANKINGS
The Crimson Hawks remain ranked 12th in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 poll, their highest ranking since showing up at No. 10 on Feb. 17, 2009. They've played three games against ranked schools, defeating Bloomsburg and falling to Gannon and Rollins.

THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) is in his fifth season as the head coach at IUP, leading the Crimson Hawks to a 23-7 record and an appearance in the Atlantic Region Semifinals last year. Earlier this season, Dow eclipsed 200 wins in his head coaching career and has a record of 207-99, including a 94-33 mark at IUP.
