Volleyball Drops Match with Mercyhurst in Straight Sets

ERIE, PA – Taking on Mercyhurst in a PSAC matchup, the volleyball team fell to the Lakers on the road in straight sets. 

The Crimson Hawks failed to gain the lead in any set, falling 25-20, 25-13, 25-17.

IUP kept things close in the first set, trading points with the Lakers early on. When Mercyhurst took a 14-8 lead, the Crimson Hawks went on a 5-2 run, getting within three points. With the score 18-16, Mercyhurst started to pull away, taking seven of the final 11 points and claiming the 25-20 victory.

The final two sets were dominated by the Lakers, who prevented IUP from getting close to their leads.

Stephanie Kruzynski (Oxford/Oxford) led the way for IUP with seven kills followed by Ericka Lentz (Reading/Holy Name) who added six. The Crimson Hawks, however, failed to convert on many of their chances, recording only 23 kills on 93 total attacks.

IUP falls to 4-16, 1-8 on the season. They will head to East Stroudsburg and Kutztown on Friday and Saturday to take part in the PSAC Crossover. IUP will face Cheyney and East Stroudsburg Friday and West Chester and Kutztown Saturday.
