INDIANA, PA – Led by goals from
Michelle Grozinsky (Waldorf, MD/North Point) and
Anna-Kate DePaolo (Perkasie/Pennridge), the Crimson Hawks shutout the Battlers of Alderson Braoddus 2-0 at South Campus Field.
IUP got on the board early, scoring on their second shot after only 9:35 minutes of play. Grozinsky gave the Crimson Hawks the early lead, sending a shot over the head of Alderson Broaddus goalie Sarah Turner.
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) and the IUP defense was solid, only allowing one shot in the first half. IUP outshot the Battlers 3-1 in the first half and entered the break with the 1-0 lead.
Defense and outstanding goalkeeping took control, as it would be more than 60 minutes before another goal was scored.
In the 70
th minute,
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) made a perfect pass to the front of the net, allowing DePaolo to kick it in and give IUP the 2-0 lead. That proved to be all the Crimson Hawks would need to claim the victory.
Hricik was perfect in net, stopping all seven of the Battlers' scoring chances. The Crimson Hawks outshot Alderson Broaddus 16-4.
With the victory, IUP improves to 6-6-1 (4-6-1) on the season. They'll head to Clarion Saturday to take on the Golden Eagles in a PSAC matchup at 1 p.m.
