EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – With strong performances from several Crimson Hawks, the IUP volleyball team opened up its weekend with two 3-0 victories over Cheyney and East Stroudsburg on Friday. It was the first day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover.
The Crimson Hawks started off their day with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-13 win over Cheyney before another easy 25-11, 25-17, 25-15 win over the host Warriors.
Both matches were quick, finishing up in 50 and 60 minutes, respectively.
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) and
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) led the way offensively for IUP against the Wolves, each finishing with eight kills apiece.
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) added seven while
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) guided the way with 28 assists. IUP had eight total service aces, with two each coming from Palmer, Sova and
Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin).
Defensively, Kissell had three solo blocks.
Against ESU, Sova and
Ericka Lentz (Reading/Holy Name) each had a team-high 12 kills. Sova scored hers on 17 total attacks without registering a single error. She also had six total blocks on the night.
Kissell added seven kills and
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had six. Moeller had 38 assists. IUP had nine aces, with four coming off the hand of Hrapla.
The Crimson Hawks had 14 total blocks against the Warriors, as Moeller had four and
Stephanie Kruzynski (Oxford/Oxford) chipped in three more.
IUP improved to 6-16 overall on the year and 3-8 in the PSAC with those wins. They head down the road to Kutztown on Saturday to complete the PSAC crossover weekend against West Chester and the host Golden Bears.
