Stephanie Kruzynski (Oxford/Oxford) finished with a career-high 13 kills to help IUP to a 3-1 win over visiting Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West volleyball action on Friday night at the Kovalchick Complex.
Kruzynski's 13 kills came on 25 total attacks with just one error. She added a block assist to finish with a team-high 13.5 points on the night.
The win was IUP's third in a row as the Crimson Hawks have won five of their last six matches. They improve to 9-17 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC West. The Fighting Scots drop to 15-13 overall and 6-8 in the conference.
The first three games were tight, with IUP winning 25-21 and 25-23 before the Fighting Scots took the third, 26-24. The Crimson Hawks finished off the match with a 25-13 win in the fourth.
Edinboro held an 9-7 lead in the opening set before a 6-0 run by the Crimson Hawks, including two kills by Kruzynski and a pair of aces from
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot), gave IUP a 13-9 lead. IUP took a 17-12 lead before the Fighting Scots scored eight of the next 12 points to cut their deficit to one at 21-20. The Crimson Hawks responded with three of the next four points before a kill by
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) clinched the win.
The second set was tied early on at 6-6 before the Crimson Hawks built a 17-10 lead. It was 20-13 when the Fighting Scots again tried to mount a comeback, going on a 9-4 run leading to an IUP timeout. Edinboro scored one more point after the break to make it 24-23 before Sova again finished things off, this time with a solo block.
It was a back-and-fourth third set that featured seven ties and seven lead changes. IUP held a late 22-19 lead but Edinboro finished things with a 7-2 run to get the win.
After taking a 6-5 lead, the Crimson Hawks controlled the deciding set, going on a 6-0 run to take a 12-5 advantage. The Fighting Scots got it to within five at 14-9, but three different 3-0 scoring runs helped IUP to the 12-point fourth-set win.
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) had 12 kills for IUP while
Ericka Lentz (Reading/Holy Name) added 11 with a team-high 21 digs. Sova finished with eight kills and five total blocks while
Kelly Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley) had 20 digs.
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) had 48 assists.
The Crimson Hawks return to the court, hosting their third of five straight home matches against rival Slippery Rock. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
