ERIE, PA – In a practically even game throughout, the IUP women's soccer game was edged by Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Mercyhurst 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Each team got off 10 shots in a game that featured teams which were neck-and-neck for some of the final spots in the upcoming PSAC tournament.
With the loss the Crimson Hawks fall to 8-7-1 overall and 6-7-1 in the PSAC. Mercyhurst moves to 8-7-1 and 7-6-1.
With its conference mark, IUP has 19 points and with two games left to go in the regular season, sit four points behind East Stroudsburg for the last tournament spot.
The Lakers scored the only goal of the day in the game's eighth minute, with Nikki Charboneau getting one past
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) from 20 yards out.
The Crimson Hawks had several chances near the end of the game to tie the score, but shots by
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) and
Nicole Miller (South Park/South Park) were denied by the Mercyhurst defense.
Hricik saved four shots on the day for the Crimson Hawks.
IUP will travel to Lock Haven on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to host Bloomsburg on Senior Day.
