Women’s Soccer Rolls over Lock Haven in Must-Win Road Game

LOCK HAVEN, PA - Six different players scored goals when IUP traveled to Lock Haven in a must-win game as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). In what was never a close contest, the Crimson Hawks trounced the Lady Eagles 7-2.

IUP found the back of the net early and often as starters and reserve players were able to contribute in the winning effort against Lock Haven. The first goal came just four minutes into the game when Brittany Kuhns scored from 12 yards out to put IUP up 1-0. The goal came off of an assist from Tori Pickur.

The Lady Eagles found ways to produce shots on multiple occasions, but IUP goalkeeper Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) was able to fend them off. Lock Haven didn't score a single goal in the first half despite mustering 11 shots.

IUP's second goal of the game came in the 33rd minute when Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) scored on a chip shot to put the Crimson Hawks up 2-0. The goal came off of an assist from Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove). This goal would prove to be the beginning of a scoring onslaught.

The Crimson Hawks scored again three minutes later when Pickur scored off her own rebound to put IUP up 3-0. Two minutes after that, in the 38th minute, Fabian scored her second goal of the game by knocking in a rebound to put IUP up 4-0.

With two minutes left in the first half, Lindsay Lobevero (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) scored her first goal of the season off of an assist from Fisher. The Crimson Hawks led 5-0 at halftime.

Offense slowed down a bit in the second half, but the Lady Eagles never gave in. Lock Haven found a little fire when Jamie Hunter scored a goal in the 73rd minute to close the gap to 5-1. The gap was widened to five points once again, however, when IUP's Alyssa Dombrosky (Mount Pleasant, Pa. /Mount Pleasant) scored her first goal of the season.

Lock Haven scored their second goal of the game in the 79th minute when Natasia Lenox scored off of an assist from Samantha Biondi to put the score at 6-2. This was the closest the score would be for the rest of the game as the Crimson Hawks won 7-2 following a goal from Kristin Buchanan (Bellefonte, Pa. /Bellefonte) in the 84th minute. The goal was assisted by Mandy Cerminara (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) and Casey Reber (Danville/Danville).
IUP improves to 9-7-1 with a conference mark of 7-7-1, earning 22 points.

Mercyhurst, which had been in a three-way tie with the Crimson Hawks and Millersville for ninth place in the PSAC standings for a short time after IUP's win, also picked up a win on Wednesday, defeating Mansfield 4-0. With the win, the Lakers broke that three-way tie and moved into eighth place in the conference. East Stroudsburg is now ninth with 23 points while IUP and Millersville are 10th with 22.

The top eight schools earns berths in the PSAC championships.

The Crimson Hawks final game of the season will take place at home at South Campus Field against Bloomsburg on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. IUP will honor its 11 seniors prior to the game.
