AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks travel to Buckhannon, W. Va. to take on the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan in the 2013-14 season opener. IUP closed out its exhibition season with a loss at the nation's No. 2 team, Michigan State. The Bobcats are 1-1 on after falling to Virginia State in their season opener Saturday, and claiming the first win of their season Sunday against Bowie State.

HEAVY FAVORITES
IUP enters  the 2013-14 season with high expectations after an impressive 2012-13 campaign. The Crimson Hawks were chosen as the top team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll and are ranked  14th in the nation in Division II.

FOUR YEARS TO LEAD
Sr. F Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School), who has been with the team for all four years of his playing career, led IUP in points in both of IUP's exhibition games. Against LaSalle, he played in 35 minutes, finishing with 17 points and three rebouns. Against the Spartans, he registered 38 minutes, recording 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. He will add senior leadership to a very young Crimson Hawks squad. Out of the 14 members of the team, seven are newcomers.

NEW YEAR, NEW ROLE
Jr. G Devante Chance (Philadelphia, Pa. /Electrical & Technology Charter) has assumed the starting point guard role with the departure of senior Anthony Wells (Cleveland, OH/Shaker Heights). Chance took to that new role quickly, scoring 14 points and adding 3 rebounds in the loss at La Salle. Chance led the team in assists with five and played a team-high 38 minutes. Against Michigan State, he again played in 38 minutes, finishing the game with eight points four rebounds and three assists.

PSAC PRESEASON POLL
IUP has been picked to repeat in the PSAC West, garnering seven first place votes in the annual preseason coaches' poll. Gannon came in second with one first place vote, and rounding out the top three is rival Slippery Rock, who also managed one first place vote. The Crimson Hawks went 1-1 against Gannon last season, with both meetings coming in the regular season. Against Slippery Rock, IUP finished the regular season with a win and a loss, but knocked the Pride out of both the PSAC tournament and the NCAA tournament.
