Stoner finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth career double-double, as the Crimson Hawks improved to 2-0 on the season. It was Fairmont State's first loss of the season as the Falcons dropped to 2-1 on the year.
It was a slow first half as neither team could get into a rhythm early. The Crimson Hawks started off 6-of-30 from the floor while Fairmont State began 6-of-25.
The Falcons grabbed a 13-7 lead after 12:29 of play with Makenzie White scoring 10 of those points. A fast break layup by
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) with just over six minutes to play seemed to ignite the IUP offense during the final stretch of the first half. The Crimson Hawks continued that momentum coming out of the break, starting the second half on a 13-2 run to take 31-18 lead.
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) scored four points while Stoner tacked on five, including a layup and one to cap off the run at the 16:30 mark.
Fairmont State scored the next seven points to cut its deficit to six at 31-25 before a layup by Stamp followed by back-to-back three-pointers pushed IUP's lead to 39-27 with 13:06 remaining.
The Falcons managed to cut IUP's lead to single digits again, but the Crimson Hawks responded with a 14-2 run over 4:39 span to take a sizeable 55-35 lead with just over four minutes remaining. IUP then melted away the clock as Fairmont State only got as close as 12 points en route to the 16-point victory.
Stamp finished with a game-high 20 points, going 8-of-18 from the floor in 34 minutes of action. She also added four rebounds and four steals.
Seven of Stoner's 10 boards were on the offensive end as she did her damage in 24 minutes.
Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) scored eight points with six rebounds and four assists and Fairman added nine points and three steals.
The Crimson Hawks shot 20.0 percent in the first half and followed that up with a 50.0 percent shooting effort, 15-of-30, in the second.
