Title IX Celebration
AT A GLANCE
Looking for their third win in a row are the Crimson Hawks who welcome rival Slippery Rock to the KCAC this Saturday night. IUP has won four of its last five contests, including the last two by an average of 39.5 points, and are 3rd in the PSAC West with a 10-4 record. Slippery Rock is currently on a five-game losing streak and is last in the division with a 3-11 mark.
LAST TIME OUT
Fr. F Zhané Brooks had her best game of the year with 20 points and 8 rebounds to help the Crimson Hawks to an easy 88-62 win at Lock Haven on Wednesday. Brooks hit her season-high in 25 minutes off the bench, going 8-9 from the field and 4-4 from the foul line. In her 2nd career start, So. G
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) scored 19 points and grabbed 6 boards.
PICKING UP THE (SCORING) PACE
The Crimson Hawks have been on a torid scoring pace over the past four games, averaging 83.5 points per outing with three 84-plus point performances. The big night came last Saturday as IUP put 100 on the board against Mercyhurst and continued at Lock Haven on Wednesday with 88 more. 6 players are averaging at least 9.0 ppg during that span while 4 are in double-figures. For the season IUP is averaging 70.4 points per game.
HITTING THE “3”
The Crimson Hawks are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the PSAC, converting at a 34.0 pct (110-324) clip through 20 games. With 5.5 made per game, they're on pace to threaten the school's all-time mark 3's in a season of 184 in 2004-05. At this current rate they'll need 34 games to do so but with a 28-game regular season and an expanded PSAC tournament and potential NCAA postseason run, this team record could fall this year.
IN A NEW ROLE
So. G
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) has started each of the last 2 games for IUP, the first of her career. During those two games she's averaging 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 23.5 minutes. Against Lock Haven on Wednesday she scored a season-high 19 points, going 8-11 from the foul line.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
One of the most dominant players in IUP history, Sr. F
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) sits in 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,233 points. Currently on pace to break into the top five this year, Pastorek is 33 points away from passing Julie Kibler (1979-83) for 9th on the list. She's also 5th in FTs made (319), 11th in rebounds (609) and tied for 13th in FGs made (455).
THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) is in his fifth season as the head coach at IUP, leading the Crimson Hawks to a pair of NCAA tournaments (2009, 2012) and a PSAC championship during a 26-6 debut season in 2008-09. On Wednesday Dow eclipsed 100 wins in his IUP head coaching career (100-36) and has an overall record of 212-101.
