INDIANA, PA – Scooter Renkin (Midlothian, VA/Blue Ridge) had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead a standout senior effort as the 16th-ranked IUP men's basketball team defeated Lock Haven 93-66 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Wednesday night.

The win, coupled with a Slippery Rock loss to Gannon, clinched the number one seed in the PSAC West for IUP heading into the conference tournament this weekend.

The Crimson Hawks finish the regular season with a 21-5 overall record and a 17-5 mark in the conference. Their PSAC record puts them one game ahead of both Gannon and Slippery Rock (16-6) as those schools enter the tournament with the second and third seeds, respectively. Lock Haven wraps up its season with at 6-19 overall, 4-18 in the conference.

The win also came on Senior Night as the Crimson Hawks honored Renkin, Anthony Wells (Cleveland, OH/Shaker Heights), Josh Wiegand (Whiteford, MD/John Carroll), Chris Edwards (Philadelphia/North Catholic) and Dan Ayebo (Indiana/Indiana) prior to the game. That group combined for 59 points, 31 rebounds, 16 assists and eight steals on the night.

The double-double was the first for Renkin in his career as he finished 6-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range with six assists and two steals in 34 minutes. He also went 6-of-8 from the foul line while seven of his 10 rebounds were on the offensive end.

It was a back-and-forth game in the early going as Lock Haven kept it close, with IUP holding a 25-24 lead at the 8:30 mark of the first half. The Crimson Hawks then reeled off the next 16 straight points, including a trio of threes by Renkin and another from Wells to jump on top 40-24 with 5:37 to go before the break.

Coming out of the locker room with an 11-point lead, their advantage was still the same with 14:44 to go before Renkin led the Crimson Hawks on a 12-3 run as they jumped on top 67-47 at the 11:03 mark of the second half. Lock Haven wouldn't get any closer than 17 points the rest of the way as IUP cruised to the easy home win in its regular season finale.

Wells finished with 11 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals in 32 minutes, going 3-of-6 from the floor. Wiegand also went for 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting with five boards and two blocks. Edwards scored a career-high 10 points in 18 minutes in his first start, going 4-of-8 from the floor while Ayebo added four points, six rebounds and a block.

In addition, Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School) scored 17 points in 30 minutes off the bench.

The Crimson Hawks top seed earns them a first round bye in the tournament as they'll face the winner of fourth-seeded Edinboro and fifth-seeded Mercyhurst next Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at home.
