Sarah Pastorek Leads IUP to Big Win over Lock Haven on Senior Night

INDIANA, PA – Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) scored a game-high 20 points as she led IUP to a 87-49 win over Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West women's basketball matchup on Wednesday night at the KCAC.

The Crimson Hawks finish the regular season with a 21-7 overall record and will head into the PSAC tournament with a 16-6 conference record, good for the third seed in the division. Lock Haven finishes its year with a 7-19 overall record, 4-18 in the conference.

Pastorek's big game came on Senior Night as she was honored prior to the game for her four successful seasons in a Crimson Hawks uniform.

She finished 10-of-19 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds in 22 minutes. She scored 12 of her points in 12 minutes in the first half, leading IUP to a 43-23 advantage heading into the locker room.

The Crimson Hawks started off on a blistering pace, making six of their first 10 shots in the opening 4:45 to take a quick 14-2 lead over the Bald Eagles. IUP would continue with a 16-4 run over a 5:05 span to jump out on top 31-8 with 9:56 to go in the first. The Crimson Hawks would lead by as many as 25 during the opening stanza before taking that 20-point lead into the break.

Lock Haven scored six straight points to start out the second half before a 14-6 run by the Crimson Hawks got their lead back to 23 at 58-35 at the 13:41 mark. IUP followed that up with 13 consecutive points to take a 71-37 lead at the midway point and cruised the rest of the way to the huge 38-point victory.

IUP shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the floor as all five starters scored in double-figures. Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) reeled off 17 points, going an effective 6-of-9 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. She added six assists and four rebounds in 20 minutes.

Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center), Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) and Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) each added 10 points for IUP, going a combined 10-of-20 from the field. Fairman finished with six assists, four rebounds and two steals while Mathe had seven rebounds and Stoner added four.

Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic) came off the bench to score eight points and dish out five assists while Lisa Burton (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Penn Hills) had seven rebounds.

The 2013 PSAC Tournament begins on Saturday as the Crimson Hawks host sixth-seeded Mercyhurst in the opening round. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from the KCAC.
