Crimson Hawks Head to Erie to Face Bloomsburg in First Round of NCAA Atlantic Regional

The Crimson Hawks head to the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the second consecutive season and fifth time in the last seven years.

AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks are heading to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year as they earn the 4th seed in the Atlantic Regional and will play 5th seeded Bloomsburg on Friday at 8:30 p.m. IUP advanced to the quarterfinals of the PSAC tournament while the Huskies defeated Gannon 74-57 in the conference championship game to earn an automatic bid to the dance.

LAST TIME OUT
So. G Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) tied a season-high with 24 points but IUP was edged by Edinboro in the PSAC quarterfinals 75-71 back on March 5. The game was decided at the free throw line with the Fighting Scots converting 25-33 (75.8 pct) and the Crimson Hawks making 16-28 (57.1 pct) from the charity stripe.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This has blossomed into a strong rivalry over the past two seasons with this meeting being the 5th game played between these two squads since the start of last season. IUP is 3-1 in those previous games with its only loss being a 75-67 setback in the PSAC semifinals last year. IUP won 68-54 at home back on Dec. 18 of this year, adding an 84-79 win on Dec. 3, 2011 and a 77-76 win on March 9, 2012 in the Atlantic Region semifinals. IUP owns a 22-16 all-time series lead.

IUP IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
This is IUP's eighth trip to the NCAA tournament since 1984, including an Elite Eight appearance in 1999. IUP has an all-time record of 6-7 in the tournament and has advanced in five of the last seven seasons.

ASSERTING HERSELF
Stamp has become the top scoring threat for the Crimson Hawks, averaging 19.4 points in IUP's last five games. Averaging 10.8 ppg this season, she's scoring 16.3 in the 12 games since becoming a starter on Jan. 26. She grabs 5.0 rpg and has 42 steals and 25 blocks on the year. 

THE SENIOR
The true leader of the team, Pastorek averages a team-high 13.6 ppg and grabs 5.5 rpg. She's starting to hit her postseason stride, averaging 16.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg in 3 starts since returning from injury. In her 4 PSAC and NCAA tournament games last season, Pastorek averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds with a 45.2 FG% (28-62) and a 83.9 FT% (26-31). She's 8th all-time in IUP history with 1,285 career points and 9th with 632 career rebounds. 

THE HEAD COACH
Jeff Dow (Oregon, '88) is in his fifth season as the head coach at IUP, leading the Crimson Hawks to three NCAA tournaments (2009, 2012, 2013) and a PSAC tournament appearance in each year at the helm. He guided IUP to a conference championship during a 26-6 debut season in 2008-09 and has a postseason record of 7-6 (5-4 PSAC, 2-2 NCAA) in his four previous appearances with the Crimson Hawks. He has a 219-104 overall record, including a 107-39 mark at IUP.
