Women’s Tennis Tallies 7-2 Win at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – IUP took five of the six singles spots as the Crimson Hawks cruised to a 7-2 victory over Chestnut Hill in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

One of those singles wins came at number one, as Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) defeated Anastasiya Shcherbakova, the fifth-ranked player in the East region, 6-1, 6-4.

Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) also racked up a win over a regionally-ranked opponent, beating Maria Parapouras 6-4, 6-3 at number two.

Also picking up singles wins were Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) at number four with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Danielle Knott; Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) at number five with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 win over Axe Owens, and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hayley Craskey at number six.

Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) dropped a marathon match at number three, losing to Morgan Oechsle 2-6, 6-2, 12-14.

In doubles action, the excitement came in the third spot as Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) and Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) saved three match points at 6-7 to pull off a 9-8 victory over Rupali Parekh and Oechsle. Timko and Osborne paired for the other IUP win at number two, defeating Owens and Iman Williams-Mulesa 8-2 at number three.

Also competing in doubles was the pair of Eaton and Schnaas, who lost to regionally 17th-ranked Shcherbakova and Parapouras 8-3 at number one.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Monday when they battle Georgia College in Augusta, Ga.
