No. 35 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 18 Georgia College

AUGUSTA, GA – Nearly rallying from a 2-1 deficit after doubles action, the 35th-ranked IUP women's tennis team was edged by 18th-ranked Georgia College 5-4 at the West Lake Country Club in Augusta.

The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 3-5 on the season while Georgia College improves to 7-7. IUP is ranked second in the Atlantic Region while the Bobcats are fourth in the Southeast.

Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) got IUP's lone win in doubles play, getting a 9-8 win over at number two over May Johnson and Ivana Marevic.

At number one Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) fell to Kayla Barksdale and Katie Krupp 8-2 while Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) and Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) lost to Michelle Lingner and Sarah Murray 9-8 at number three.

Eaton picked up a singles win in the number one spot for the Crimson Hawks, defeating Marevic 7-5, 6-3. Schnaas got a win over Lingner at number five, 6-3, 6-3 and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) defeated Murray in three sets at number six, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

At number two Timko fell to Johnson 6-1, 6-1; McCormick lost to Barksdale 6-0, 6-1 at number three; and Osborne lost to Krupp 6-3, 6-0 at number four.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Wednesday morning as they play Augusta State.
