No. 35 Crimson Hawks Lose at No. 46 Augusta State

AUGUSTA, GA – The Crimson Hawks picked up wins at each of the top two singles and doubles spots but Augusta State closed out the rest of the way as 35th-ranked IUP lost to the 46th-ranked Jaguars 5-4 on Wednesday.

The Crimson Hawks fall to 3-6 overall on the season while August State improves to 13-3.

IUP took a 2-1 lead after doubles action with Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) and Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) picking up an 8-4 win at number one over Victoria Lindqvist and Liv Pettersson while Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) teamed for an 8-3 win at number two spot over Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine. Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) dropped their match at number three, 8-4 to Lissa Murakami and Maria Piment.

The Jaguars rallied in singles play to take a 4-2 lead as Piment defeated Osborne 6-2, 6-2 at number four; Murakami defeated Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) 65-1, 6-2 at number six; and Oliveira defeated McCormick 6-4, 6-3 at number three.

Timko made it a one-point game with a 6-4, 6-4 win at number two over Pettersson but a 6-1, 4-6,6-1 win by Fontaine at number five over Schnaas sealed the win. Eaton finished the day with an exciting rally at number one, defeating Lindqvist 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The Crimson Hawks return to the court tomorrow when they play Millersville in Hilton Head.
