HILTON HEAD, SC – A three-set singles win from
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) highlighted an 8-1 IUP women's tennis victory over William Jewell College on Friday morning in South Carolina.
It was the Crimson Hawks second consecutive win as they improved to 5-6 overall while it was William Jewell's second loss on the year, falling to 12-2.
IUP blanked William Jewell in singles play, going 6-0 including McCormick's 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 comeback win at number three over Savannah Drew.
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) picked up a win at number one, defeating Kristen Stivers 6-0, 7-6 while
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) got an easy win at number two, beating Hana Lindbloom 6-1, 6-1.
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) defeated Katy Lehenbauer 6-3, 6-1 at number four while
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) beat Loree Hazelrigg 6-4, 7-5 at number five and
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) took down Carli Bisesi 6-3, 6-0 at number six.
In doubles play, Eaton and Schnaas blanked Stivers and Lehenbauer 8-0 at number one.
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and McCormick paired for an 8-2 win over Lindbloom and Jaimie Baker at number three while Timko and Osborne fell to Loree and Conner Hazelrigg 8-4 at number two.
The Crimson Hawks battle Winston-Salem State on Saturday afternoon.
