WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The 35th-ranked Crimson Hawks racked up their third straight win as they shut out Winston-Salem State 9-0 in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
The match was the final one for IUP during its southern spring break trip as the Crimson Hawks evened their season record at 6-6. During the three-match streak IUP has outscored its opponents 26-1.
All seven Crimson Hawks picked up at least one victory on the day, including
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge), who scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sloane Holmes at the number one singles spot. It was Eaton's sixth straight singles victory – all coming at number one.
At number two,
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) defeated Kayla Carter 6-1, 6-2 while
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at number three over Bianka Locklear.
At number four,
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) defeated Dominique Lindsay 6-1, 6-3 while
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) had a 7-5, 6-0 win over Taylor Harris and number five and
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) blanked Carmen Grady 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Eaton paired with Schnaas for an 8-3 win over Holmes and Carter at number one. Timko and Osborne scored and 8-2 win over Locklear and Lindsay at number two while McCormick and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) also defeated Harris and Grady 8-2 at number three.
IUP finished its trip with a 4-2 record and return to conference play on Tuesday with a road match at Mercyhurst in Erie. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
