MONROEVILLE, PA –
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) and
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) picked up the Crimson Hawks singles wins as IUP dropped a 7-2 match to a strong 23rd-ranked New York Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon at the Monroeville Club for Life.
The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 2-3 on the season as they've started off their spring with difficult schedule.
Osborne picked up her win at number four, defeating Valeria Savina 6-4, 6-0. Mahto added her win at number six by defeating Gaby Rodriguez 6-4, 6-4.

Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) fell to Nelly Ciolkowksi 6-1, 6-4 at number one and
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) dropped the number two spot to Sara Burinato 6-1, 6-4. At number three
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) lost to Madalina Florea 6-0, 6-3 while
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) lost to Rocio Benavent 6-0, 6-3 at number five.
Ciolkowski is ranked seventh in the nation while Burinato is slotted 46th.
In doubles action, it was an exciting one at number three as the NYIT pair of Savina and Rodriguez got the best of McCormick and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ), 9-7. At number one Eaton and Schnaas fell to Ciolkowski and Florea 8-3 while Timko and Osborne lost to Burinato and Benavent 8-2.
The Crimson Hawks return to Monroeville on Tuesday as they open their PSAC West schedule against rival California. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
