Women’s Tennis Advances to PSAC Championship with Win over Kutztown

Emilia Osborne had the clinching win at fourth singles on Saturday afternoon to help send IUP to the PSAC championship match for the third consecutive season.

INDIANA, PA – Picking up where they left off on Friday morning, the IUP women's tennis team finished off a 5-0 victory over Kutztown in the semifinals of the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Saturday.

The match was postponed due to rain on Friday with the Crimson Hawks leading 3-0.

IUP now advances to PSAC championship match and will play rival California for the third consecutive season. They'll play on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Maple Street Courts on the campus of IUP.

Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) picked up the first victory on Saturday, getting a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Chelsea Davis at number six. Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number four over Tori Zander.

The Vulcans have gotten the best of IUP in each of the last two PSAC championship matches, winning 6-1 last year and 5-0 in 2011.

The championship was originally set for Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. but steady rain on Friday postponed three men's and women's semifinal matches.
